Tip Top Poultry Inc. and the FDA provided a wider picture of the reach of a ready-to-eat chicken recall for possible listeria. The chicken went in heat-and-eat meals, sandwiches and deli salads at major grocery stores and a few restaurants.

The Rockmart, Ga., company produced recalled frozen cooked, diced or shredded RTE chicken products between Jan. 21 and Sept. 24. The amount recalled is undetermined.

An updated recall notice alerts consumers that the chicken was used in additional products, some of which may have been served at the deli counter in grocery stores.

You can view 136 pages of labels from recalled products by clicking here. Some stores with the products include Kroger, Aldi and Piggly Wiggly supermarkets in multiple states. Jersey Mike’s in Georgia and Great Harvest Bread Co. in North Carolina got the chicken too, for example. For a retailer list that’s still being updated, go to this site.

The latest company to announce an individual recall because of Tip Top Poultry’s products is Grand Strand Sandwich Co., which pulled chicken salad sandwiches from convenience stores and vending machines in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Star Foods, aka Mrs. Stratton’s, supplies Grand Strand with chicken salad and notified the company that is used recalled chicken from Tip Top Poultry.

Grand Strand’s recalled products distributed from Sept. 4 to Oct. 2 include:

  • Lunch Box chicken salad fresh wedge sandwiches, UPC 0 67068 12105 4, various sell by dates in October
  • Fresh and Local chicken salad croissants, UPC 0 67068 13105 3, various sell by dates in September and October
  • Lunch Box chicken salad frozen wedge sandwiches, UPC 0 67068 12105 4, Julian date 26119

No illnesses had been reported at the time of the Grand Strand's recall announcement. People should throw out the sandwiches or return them to the store for a refund. Anyone with questions may contact Kirk McCumbee at 843-399-2999 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT Monday through Thursday and until 3 p.m. on Fridays.
