First Dedicated Forum for Advancing AI in Food Safety Slated for 2027
Organized by a team from Wageningen University and Research, the inaugural AI for Food Safety Conference (AIFS) is set to take place on April 8–9, 2027 in Ede, the Netherlands.
The event will bring together researchers, data scientists, food safety professionals, regulators, and industry innovators at the forefront of artificial intelligence (AI) in food safety, offering a platform to exchange cutting-edge research, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and build a strong international community focused on safe food systems.
Bas van der Velden, Ph.D., Head of Data Science and AI, Wageningen Food Safety Research, explained the intent of AIFS to Food Safety Magazine. “We were missing a community that fully focuses on algorithmic development of AI for solving the issues in food safety,” he said. “Sure, there are sessions at big conferences that focus on application of AI, but those typically do not have the dedicated focus on AI that we envision here.”
AIFS will serve as a dedicated forum to explore AI food safety applications such as contamination detection, risk prediction, automation and surveillance, and preventive strategies.
The hope is that AIFS conference proceedings will detail progress in AI for food safety applications, including algorithmic choices and methods.
“Conferences with such proceedings are the buzzing hubs for AI researchers in a specific field,” Dr. Van der Velden remarked. “This is what we aim for with AIFS, with recurring editions in different locations around the world.”
