Missa Bay, LLC, a Swedesboro, NJ subsidiary of Bonduelle, issued a recall of salad products on November 21st in connection to an ongoing Escherichia coli O157:H7 outbreak. 

Testing was conducted on one unopened salad that had been purchased by one of the patients identified in the outbreak. The presence of E. coli was detected in the salad’s romaine lettuce.   

The comment period will now close on December 5, 2019 in response to requests for additional time to submit comments.  

Last week, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) penned a letter to Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue requesting more transparency when it comes to the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA FSIS)’s collection of microbiological testing data from slaughterhouses and meat and poultry processing establishments.   

The FDA is conducting this assignment following multiple outbreaks of foodborne illness associated with the consumption of romaine lettuce.
