The last year has been one of change. We have a new administration, which includes a new acting undersecretary for food safety and a new acting administrator.

Delivery and e-commerce are two major new factors influencing the findings in this year’s Trends Report from the Foodservice Packaging Institute. Today’s consumers are experiencing what the report calls “nearly limitless” food delivery options, such as meal kits and delivery programs, prepared food couriered by third-party vendors, and take-out and delivery options from traditional dine-in foodservice establishments. These delivery options impact how foodservice packaging must perform. Consumers want meals to arrive hot, fresh and safe, along with being represented by the foodservice brand.

Dairy plant managers work to keep their processing equipment running as frequently as possible to optimize plant efficiency and minimize operating costs.

It’s an unfortunate fact that food recalls still occur too often. And with the FDA’s focus on ready-to-eat (RTE) foods, the dairy industry is no exception. For example, there have been more than 20 recalls of various types of cheeses due to Listeria monocytogenes concerns thus far in 2017.
