AI-Powered Pest Traps Provide Food Facilities Immediate Notifications, Actionable Insights

BrightAI and Pelsis have expanded their existing partnership, bringing new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered pest detection devices to a wider range of food facilities.

The jointly developed solution transforms Pelsis’ traditional insect light traps into around-the-clock smart detection systems. Powered by BrightAI’s high-resolution cameras and advanced software, the smart traps instantly identify the presence of pests and provide alerts so facilities can intervene before a full pest outbreak occurs. With detection as early as day one of an infestation, facilities can act more quickly, use less pesticides, and automatically have a robust data trail for inspections and compliance. Additionally, data captured by the traps are used to train advanced AI models that can identify pest species and trends, allowing for tailored, pest-specific treatment plans.

All of the data collected by the traps are housed in a web portal, providing a centralized platform for tracking pest trends, generating reports, and ensuring audit readiness across multiple sites. The portal allows pest control technicians or site managers to see any glue board in any factory around the world. The system also provides a mobile app that guides field technicians to specific glue boards and areas requiring intervention, optimizing response times to identify growing infestations before they become a problem.

Initially, the Pelsis Digital platform, developed in collaboration with BrightAI, was available only for the popular Cobra LED insect light traps, as part of a pilot program. Following the success of the pilot, Pelsis Digital Gen 2 technology will now be available for the Halo and Flytrap product lines, providing automated and optimized pest control to broader range of facilities.

The Pelsis Digital Halo product includes a new high-definition color camera, which provides improved image quality that makes it easier to identify specific species on a glue board. Digital Halo and the Cobra line are both specifically designed for commercial environments, using the latest LED light source technology that delivers energy savings of up to 69 percent.

Pelsis Digital has been deployed in several large-scale food and beverage manufacturing facilities and grocery retailers across the U.S., UK, and Europe.
