Peanut Corp. of America Trial to Conclude Today

The jury is expected to render a verdict today in the trial of former Peanut Corporation of America owner Stewart Parnell and his brother Michael, a food broker. The Parnells are charged with knowingly shipping contaminated peanut butter to customers and faking lab tests intended to screen for salmonella.

The U.S. FDA yesterday announced a new cooperative agreement with the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture that will provide funding and support necessary to determine the current foundation of state law and the resources needed by states to implement the produce safety rule, and will develop a timeline for successful implementation once the rule is finalized.
