Seafood guidance updated

By Sharon Spielman
Regulatory Watch
October 15, 2019

New chapters and sections of the Fish and Fishery Products Hazards and Controls Guidance, including the updated 21 CFR Part 123—Fish and Fishery Products, were updated by the FDA in August.

Among the sections updated by the FDA: Chapter 3—Potential Species-Related and Process-Related Hazards; Chapter 6— Natural Toxins; Chapter 19—Undeclared Major Food Allergens and Food Intolerance Substances; Appendix 5—FDA and EPA Safety Levels in Regulations and Guidance; Appendix 8—Procedures for Safety and Sanitary Processing and Importing of Fish and Fishery Products; Appendix 9—Allergen Cleaning and Sanitation; and Appendix 10—Allergen Cross-Contact Prevention.

The agency offers a webpage at www.fda.gov/food/resources-you-food/seafood that provides access to content about seafood, including fish and shellfish.

Grouped according to target audiences, these links include access to up-to-date consumer information and advice, guidance documents, regulation, and science and research content.
