Shortly following National Food Safety Education Month, Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences and the Penn State Extension will offer a course, titled, “Food Safety and Sanitation for Food Manufacturers” designed for those who are developing in-house food safety programs. The course will cover topics such as the science and technology of cleaning and sanitizing, food allergen control, sanitary facilities and equipment design, food defense, pest control, and environmental monitoring.

The course will take place October 10–12, 2023 at the Erickson Food Science Building on Penn State’s University Park campus. Lectures and lab sessions will focus on control of pathogenic and spoilage microorganisms, plant and equipment design, safe handling of chemical products, allergen control, and educational strategies to engage workers in the food safety plan.

The registration deadline is September 30, 2023. Registration-fee discounts are available for groups of three or more registering from the same company. The agenda, travel information, and online registration are available on Penn State’s Food Safety and Sanitation for Food Manufacturers website.
