Motive Provides Monitoring Solutions for Cold Chain Transportation, Integrations for Thermo King Reefers

Motive Environmental Monitor

October 4, 2022

Motive has launched a new monitoring solution for refrigerated vehicles and trailers, which are also known as reefers. The solution is intended to help food and beverage businesses improve compliance with food transportation safety requirements and reduce costs related to reefer operations.

Motive Reefer Monitoring includes a new Environmental Sensor that remotely surveils reefer temperature and humidity conditions in real time. The solution allows businesses to access their complete fleet data on a single screen, including location, vehicle telematics, and reefer insights. The monitoring technology also makes it possible to create on-demand reefer logs for any period of time, eliminating the need to visit a service center, therefore reducing cost, decreasing reefer downtime, and improving fleet performance. It also enhances reefer fleets’ compliance with Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) requirements.

The transport of cold chain food and beverage products requires food business operators to pay strict attention to the conditions inside their reefers. Motive Reefer Monitoring enables businesses to set reports for regular intervals, such as every 15 minutes, to ensure there are no issues with the load. The level of visibility that Motive Reefer Monitoring provides can improve fleet manager productivity by hours each week, and prevents any spoilage.

Motive also collaborated with Thermo King to introduce a new integration for its units that enables monitoring of reefer telematics data from the Motive Fleet Dashboard. The integration helps avoid any food spoilage and lower the operating and maintenance costs of reefer systems by proactively detecting any problems. In addition, the new integration enables customers to remotely program and control reefer units to eliminate manual precooling before a trip, saving time and reducing the potential for human error.

The partnership between Motive and Thermo King addresses the issue of integration, which, according to a survey conducted by 451 Research, is a major concern for fleet owners. Poor integration is the second-largest inhibitor to implementing Internet of Things (IoT) initiatives at commercial transportation companies. Motive and Thermo King’s partnership meets fleet owners’ and reefer operators’ need for environmental monitoring technology to come pre-integrated and accessible through a single dashboard, eliminating the inconvenience of having to switch between multiple applications to find the information they need.

Motive Reefer Monitoring and the partnership with Thermo King enables reefer owners and operators to access their entire operations through a single location. The solution allows businesses to access and take actions on all of their vehicles and equipment, including refrigeration units, in a consolidated dashboard within Motive’s Automated Operations Platform.
