49th Annual ADSA Discover Conference to Focus on Dairy Sustainability

The American Dairy Science Association (ADSA) will host its 49th Discover Conference, titled, “Dairy and the Environment: Challenges and Opportunities," on August 31–September 3, 2026, at Eaglewood Resort and Spa in Itasca, Illinois.
According to ADSA, the conference will examine environmental sustainability in the dairy sector through an interdisciplinary scientific program focused on research, technology, policy, and industry implementation. The nonprofit professional organization said its Discover Conference series is designed to explore a single topic from multiple scientific perspectives in a discussion-oriented setting.
The conference program will open with keynote presentations by Tim Kurt of Dairy Management Inc., who will discuss how research supports U.S. dairy sustainability efforts, and Peter Lund of Aarhus University, who will present a European perspective on dairy sustainability.
Subsequent sessions will address topics including methane-reducing feed additives, genetic selection and production efficiency, manure management technologies such as anaerobic digesters and nutrient recovery systems, and the use of farm-level environmental data for sustainability reporting. Additional presentations will examine groundwater policy and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) as emerging environmental considerations for the dairy industry.
The final day of the conference will include a panel discussion, titled, "The Sustainability Journey: Lessons Today, Visions for the Future," featuring representatives from dairy processors and consumer packaged goods companies who will discuss sustainability initiatives and future priorities. Another session will focus on approaches for measuring the value of sustainability practices.
According to ADSA, presentations will be followed by moderated discussions intended to encourage interaction among researchers and industry professionals. The conference will also include a Sustainability Showcase and Social, where participating organizations will present sustainability initiatives and network with attendees.
Registration is open, with early registration discounts available through July 31, 2026. ADSA said travel scholarships will be awarded to ten graduate students, and sponsorship opportunities remain available.
