EU Webinar to Explore Food System Security, Resilience, Threat Anticipation

Four European research and innovation projects will host a joint webinar on July 3, 2026, focused on strengthening food system security through resilience, preparedness, and threat anticipation.
The online event, titled, "Advancing Food System Security: From Early Signals to Systemic Resilience," will take place from 2:00–3:30 P.M. CEST. The webinar will bring together researchers, policymakers, industry stakeholders, and practitioners to discuss approaches for identifying emerging risks and improving preparedness across food systems.
The webinar follows a March 2026 event that examined food fraud, cybersecurity, food system resilience, and chemical, biological, and radiological threats to food security.
The event will examine methodologies, frameworks, and tools developed through four EU-funded projects that address different aspects of food system security, including resilience management, food fraud prevention, cybersecurity, food safety, and food defense.
Presentations will include:
- SecureFood: "Food Systems Resilience Management Framework," presented by Anna Vetsou, M.Eng. of EMPRACTIS L.P.
- European Food Fraud Community of Practice (EFF-CoP): "When All You Have Is a Hammer, Everything Looks Like a Nail: Why Analytical Methods Only Solve Part of the Food Fraud Problem, and What Other Approaches Are Needed," presented by Peter Olsen, Ph.D. of the Norwegian Food Research Institute (NOFIMA)
- ACT4FOOD: "Methodologies and Approaches for the Development of Cybersecurity Solutions in the Food Chain," presented by Alberto Garre, Ph.D., M.Eng. of Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena
- DEFENSEFOOD: "From Early Signals to Early Warning: Anticipating Emerging Food Safety and Food Defense Threats," presented by Ákos Józwiak, Ph.D., D.V.M. of Syreon Research Institute.
Following the presentations, attendees will participate in an interactive discussion examining challenges related to food system security. Live polling will be used to gather perspectives on major threats and priority areas for action.
Key topics scheduled for discussion include:
- Food system resilience and preparedness
- Early signals, early warning systems, and threat anticipation
- Food fraud prevention and food system integrity
- Cybersecurity and cyber-physical risks in food systems
- Emerging food safety and food defense challenges
- Systemic vulnerabilities and preparedness gaps
- Cross-sector collaboration and policy priorities.
