Initial Tests Show Promise for Novel Protein-Based Biopesticide

Biotalys announced that it has reached an initial research milestone in its collaboration with Syngenta to develop a protein-based bioinsecticide targeting key insect pests. Using its novel AGROBODY technology platform, Biotalys is working to develop a pipeline of effective product candidates with a favorable safety profile that aim to address key crop pests and diseases across the whole value chain
According to Biotalys, early in vitro testing demonstrated activity of novel protein-based bioactive ingredients developed with AGROBODY against a specific insect molecular target.
The partnership between Biotalys and Syngenta aims to develop crop protection tools with new modes of action that can be integrated into existing pest management programs. Biotalys stated that its protein-based biocontrol platform is intended to address increasing insect resistance and evolving regulatory and environmental constraints affecting conventional crop protection products.
Biotalys asserted that its approach offers a targeted method for managing resistant insect populations.
Following the initial milestone, the companies will advance to the next research phase, which will evaluate the bioactive ingredients in living organisms (in vivo).
