Another brand of flour recalled in expanded E. coli outbreak investigation

King Arthur Flour used ADM Milling wheat linked to outbreak

King Arthur Flour recall
June 26, 2019

King Arthur Flour Inc. recalled all-purpose flour with wheat from ADM Milling Co. for possible E. coli, expanding health officials’ outbreak investigation connected to ADM flour.

Grocery chain Aldi previously recalled some flour made by ADM Milling. In that case, state health officials tested a bag and found an E. coli strain linked to the outbreak, which has made 17 people sick.

King Arthur recalled about 14,000 cases distributed nationwide. The 5-pound bags of unbleached flour have these best by dates and lot codes below the nutritional information panel:

  • 12/07/19, L18A07C
  • 12/08/19, L18A08A, L18A08B
  • 12/14/19, L18A14A, L18A14B, L18A14C

ADM Milling, part of Archer Daniels Midland Co., informed King Arthur that certain wheat used to make those lots was linked to the ongoing outbreak, King Arthur says in its recall notice.

No one reported an illness from King Arthur flour at the time of the announcement.

“Consumer safety is our top priority, and therefore, we are voluntarily recalling these specific lots of unbleached all-purpose flour to prevent potential illnesses,” King Arthur’s statement says. “We are committed to educating and reminding consumers that flour is not ready-to-eat, and anything made with flour must be baked before eating.”

The previously recalled Aldi flour includes all 5-pound bags of Baker’s Corner all-purpose flour sold in 11 states: Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and West Virginia. All lot codes and best by dates are included.

People should throw away the flour or return it to the store for a refund. The King Arthur recall doesn’t include flour sold through its website, its Baker’s Catalogue or its store in Norwich, Vt.

Anyone with questions about the recall may call the King Arthur consumer hotline 24 hours a day at 866-797-9178.
