Canadian Testing of Cantaloupe Finds Nearly All Negative for Salmonella

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) today released a study that found that 99.8% of whole cantaloupe samples it tested during the 2010/2011 season were negative for the presence of Salmonella.

FDA Releases Draft Guidance on Prior Notice of Imported Foods

March 28, 2014
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today issued a draft guidance entitled "Guidance for Industry: Prior Notice of Imported Food Questions and Answers (Edition 3)." The document addresses questions received since the publication of the second edition of the guidance in May 2004 and includes information related to the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), which requires that additional information be provided in a prior notice of imported food submitted to FDA.

Rancho Feeding Facility to Reopen in April Under New Ownership

San Francisco-based Marin Sun Farms has obtained approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to take over the Rancho Feeding Corp. slaughterhouse in Petaluma, CA. The company plans to reopen the shuttered facility early next month.
