Foster Farms, FSIS Reach Agreement to Keep California Plants Open

October 11, 2013
Late yesterday (Oct. 10), beleaguered poultry processor Foster Farms announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) reviewed the company's safety plan for its three California facilities in Livingston and Fresno, and had agreed to allow the plants to continue operating. This follows Foster Farms' implementation of several new food safety controls over the last two months and the company's commitment to install added processes during an enhanced inspection period over the next 90 days, according to a company statement.

BioControl Systems, Inc. has received AOAC-PTM Certification (#050602) for its Assurance GDS® Salmonella Tq mEHEC method from the AOAC Research Institute’s Performance Tested Methods Program.The new eight-hour mEHEC enrichment protocol allows customers to obtain results in select matrices in just 10 hours, including sample processing.

Sample6 Secures Financing to Commercialize Food Safety Products

October 9, 2013
Sample6, a Boston-based company focused on applying biotechnology to advance food safety, announced today that it has secured a $11 million Series B financing round led by Canaan Partners. The funds will be used to commercialize Sample6's first products, Sample6 DETECT/L and Sample6 CONTROL, which are designed to enable in-plant, in-shift pathogen detection in food processing environments.

Salmonella Outbreak in 18 States Linked to Foster Farms Chicken

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service is issuing a public health alert due to concerns that illness caused by strains of Salmonella Heidelberg are associated with raw chicken products produced by Foster Farms at three facilities in California.
