EnviroZyme Feed Additive for Seafood Aquaculture Can Reduce Vibrio Risks

EnviroZyme has launched MultiBio Edge, a multi-strain prebiotic, probiotic, and postbiotic feed additive designed for shrimp and finfish aquaculture feeds.
MultiBio Edge is incorporated during the post-pelleting coating process and is intended to support feed attractability, digestion, and gut health. According to EnviroZyme, the microbial consortia selected for the additive produce digestive enzymes that help break down complex feed ingredients, potentially improving nutrient availability and feed digestibility.
Testing conducted by EnviroZyme demonstrated amylase, cellulase, and pectinase activity. The company also reported that MultiBio Edge increased feed attractability and inhibited colonization of Vibrio species on feed surfaces.
EnviroZyme also reported testing of MultiBio Edge for its potential effects on pathogen-related cytotoxicity and the shrimp gut microbiome.
According to the company, testing showed that the additive reduced cytotoxicity caused by Vibrio parahaemolyticus, helping protect intestinal cells. Bacterial genetic profiling also showed changes in the composition of the shrimp gut microbiome, including a lower signal for a marker associated with V. parahaemolyticus.
MultiBio Edge is available in 25-kilogram (55-pound) bags.
