Registration Now Open for IFT FIRST 2026

The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) has opened registration for the 2026 IFT FIRST Annual Event and Expo, taking place July 12–15 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois.
Through scientific programming and multi-disciplinary discussions, IFT FIRST, which stands for “Food Improved by Research, Science, and Technology,” addresses issues currently impacting the food industry, such as novel technology and innovation, health and nutrition, sustainability and climate, food safety, and consumer insights.
For the first time in 2026, all scientific programming will take place directly in the Expo Hall. By integrating scientific discussions and presentations within the expo environment, participants can simultaneously connect with experts, explore new technologies, and experience the innovation showcased throughout IFT FIRST.
IFT FIRST will present more than 450 research posters and 100 scientific sessions spread across the Expo Hall. These include a session on how to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) for faster, smarter, and safer food innovation, sponsored by CoDeveloper, IFT’s proprietary AI-powered R&D platform.
James Beard award-winning chef and food columnist, J. Kenji Lopez-Alt, will present the keynote session on Monday, July 13, titled, “The Science of Flavor: Transforming Culinary Experiences Through Research.” The address will explore how scientific inquiry and culinary creativity are transforming the way people experience food and will focus on the ways evidence-based experimentation is revolutionizing food preparation and product development.
On Tuesday, July 14, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Deputy Commissioner for Human Foods, Kyle Diamantas, J.D., will join IFT Vice President of Science and Policy, Anna Rosales, for a discussion on the future of food safety. They will explore the latest developments in regulatory science, risk assessment, and compliance.
Early bird registration is available through April 13, 2026, here.
