Eagle Updates FA3 Fat Analysis Series to Support USDA Compliance

Fat analysis plays a vital role in meat processing environments, where regulatory compliance, cost control, and product consistency are top priorities. As enforcement of nutrient content claims intensifies in the U.S., Eagle Product Inspection has enhanced its FA3 Series Fat Analysis (FA) systems to support processors in meeting these demands.

Utilizing dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) technology, the FA3 Series accurately measures fat content and calculates chemical lean (CL) in meat products. This data enables processors to align nutrition labels with standards set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS), reducing the risk of discrepancies between declared and actual fat levels.

The FA3/M and FA3/C models offer inline fat measurement and contaminant detection across a range of red meat and poultry applications—including fresh, chilled, frozen, and packaged formats. By ensuring batches meet target specifications from the outset, processors can minimize rework and maintain product consistency.

Additional functionality includes simultaneous food safety and quality checks. The systems identify and remove physical contaminants that could lead to recalls or consumer harm. Designed for durability, FA3 systems operate reliably in harsh washdown environments.

Model Highlights:

  • FA3/M: Measures fat to ±1 CL and detects contaminants in bulk meat, frozen or tempered blocks, and unwrapped meat in plastic crates
  • FA3/C: Provides inline fat measurement and contaminant detection for packaged products in crates, cartons, and vacuum-packed formats.

By integrating fat analysis with contaminant detection, the FA3 Series supports compliance, enhances product integrity, and contributes to operational efficiency.
