SÜDPACK Consolidates Sustainable Tubular Pouch Films for Food Packaging Under CarbonLite Brand

By Food Safety Magazine Editorial Team

Effective immediately, SÜDPACK has unified its high-performance tubular pouch films from the premium Pure-Line range into a dedicated product family, now marketed under the CarbonLite brand. Engineered from polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) mono-materials, these films are compatible with both horizontal and vertical flow pack machines and can be converted into flowpacks, doypacks (with or without spouts), and block-bottom pouches.

The consolidation reflects SÜDPACK’s commitment to sustainability and packaging efficiency. Compared to conventional multi-material laminates or heavier tray formats, CarbonLite films offer significantly reduced carbon footprints and lower disposal costs—delivering clear economic and environmental advantages.

SÜDPACK’s next-generation top webs are tailored for modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) applications. For instance, a CarbonLite PurePP flowpack uses up to 60 percent less material than a standard tray and achieves recyclability rates of up to 92 percent, verified by independent institutes. In horizontal PE-based flow pack applications, the company has further reduced film thickness while preserving barrier integrity, cutting material usage by an additional 10 percent.

These innovations are supported by SÜDPACK’s co-extrusion expertise, in-house application center, and comprehensive technical service—enabling manufacturers and packagers to accelerate time-to-market with sustainable solutions.

CarbonLite films are suitable for a wide range of food products, including:

  • PE flowpacks: Cuts of cheese, baguettes, mozzarella, coffee
  • PP flowpacks: Ground meat, convenience meals
  • PE doypacks: Grated cheese, salami sticks
  • PP doypacks: Confectionery, dried fruit, nuts, snacks
  • PP and PE Block-bottom pouches: Coffee
  • PP Spouted pouches: Fruit purées.

Despite their versatility, all films feature barrier properties tailored to protect against oxygen and water vapor, ensuring extended shelf life. Optional anti-fog features enhance product visibility, and the films maintain strong sealing performance—even with integrated zippers, spouts, or valves made from the same mono-material—thanks to their high thermal resistance.

Beyond material efficiency, SÜDPACK is advancing sustainability through its SPQ printing technology, which reduces ink and solvent consumption while enhancing print quality. The company’s commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and its Platinum status in the 2025 EcoVadis ranking underscore its leadership in environmental responsibility.

SÜDPACK also offers a robust Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) service, enabling customers to evaluate the environmental impact of various packaging concepts—including their own and SÜDPACK’s proprietary developments.
