EFSA Board Nominates Dr. Nikolaus Kriz as Executive Director

The Management Board of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has selected Dr. Nikolaus Kriz as EFSA's next Executive Director. Dr. Kriz will assume a five-year term starting in September 2025. Dr. Bernhard Url has served as EFSA's Executive Director since 2014.
Dr. Kriz, a veterinary surgeon by training, has led EFSA's Authority Risk Assessment Services (ENABLE) Department since 2017. He also held various roles at the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in veterinary and public health risk assessment prior to joining EFSA.
Upon the announcement of the vote, Dr. Kriz commented, "I am honored and grateful to be nominated to lead EFSA. Together with its exceptional staff and experts, I look forward to guiding the organization as we continue our vital mission to protect the health of EU citizens, animals, plants, and the environment."
