GFSI Adds Storage, Distribution Reqs to Scope of Guidance Document

The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) has reissued its Guidance Document Sixth Edition under version 6.3 to include key requirements related to the storage and distribution sector. Salmonella Outbreak in 18 States Linked to Foster Farms Chicken

Food Safety, FDA Hit Hard Under Government Shutdown

LGMA: Despite Government Shutdown, Inspection Continues for Leafy Greens

October 4, 2013
In an Oct. 2 blog post, LGMA CEO Scott Horsfall assured the public that "government food safety audits on leafy greens farms continue uninterrupted," noting that LGMA auditors are not direct employees of the federal government. While LGMA auditors are certified and licensed by the USDA, they are overseen by the California Department of Agriculture and the audit program is fully funded by the leafy greens community through mandatory government assessments.

USDA-ARS, PathoGenetix to Evaluate Strain Typing System on Salmonella, E. coli

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS) and PathoGenetix have signed an agreement to evaluate the company’s Genome Sequence Scanning (GSS) technology for use in identifying strains of Shigatoxin-producing E. coli (STECs) and Salmonella enterica.
