GFSI recognizes FSSC 22000

The domestic cantaloupe industry will experience increased food safety inspections and product sampling from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, according to a letter from the agency to the industry released on February 25.

EFSA Promotes Public Access to Data in Transparency Initiative

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has announced the launch of a major initiative designed to facilitate access to data, enhancing transparency in risk assessment. After more than 4 years, a 76-count indictment was filed against four former officials of the Peanut Corporation of America for selling Salmonella-contaminated peanut butter products blamed for a nationwide Salmonella outbreak in 2009 that killed 9 people and sickened more than 700.
