Microban and Calphalon Knife Sets with Integrated Antimicrobial Properties

Microban and Calphalon Knife Sets with Integrated Antimicrobial Properties
January 6, 2022

Microban International has partnered with Calphalon brand to develop a range of kitchen knives with built-in antimicrobial product protection. Calphalon Classic™ and Select by Calphalon™ knife sets now have specifically formulated Microban SilverShield® technology built into the handle of each knife, helping provide antimicrobial product protection.

Every home chef faces the daily challenge of maintaining clean surfaces through constant washing and sanitization. Insufficient hygiene measures—combined with the diminishing antimicrobial activity of some cleaning solutions after application—can lead to exponential microbial growth. This contributes to the risk of staining, odors, and premature degradation of kitchen equipment. As one of the most commonly used utensils while preparing food, kitchen knives are particularly susceptible to these issues.

Calphalon and Microban have proactively addressed this by incorporating industry-leading silver ion antimicrobial technology into the most common touch points—the handles—of the popular Calphalon Classic and Select by Calphalon knives. This helps disrupt and prevent the growth of microorganisms on the surface of the handles. The technology begins to work as soon as microorganisms come into contact with the handle, supporting and enhancing existing cleaning practices to provide 24/7 protection for the lifetime of the product, without ever washing off or becoming less effective.

Gary Gagnon, Director of Business Development at Microban, stated, “This new partnership with one of the industry leaders in fine kitchenware is particularly exciting—a view I know is shared with the wider team here at Microban.”

“The Calphalon brand is extremely proud to partner with Microban to enhance our range of premium knives,” commented Kris Malkoski, CEO of the Food Business Unit at Newell Brands. “We appreciate the importance of cleanliness in the kitchen, as well as product longevity, and incorporating Microban antimicrobial technology into our Calphalon Classic and Select by Calphalon knife sets will enable our consumers to enjoy the peace of mind of lasting protection.”
