FSSAI and GFSP Join Forces to Train for Mycotoxin, Pesticide Residue and Veterinary Drug Residue Testing

February 27, 2017

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has teamed up with the Global Food Safety Partnership (GFSP) for the purpose of training its laboratory personnel on testing methods for mycotoxins, pesticide residues and veterinary drug residues.

In December, the partnership started with a first round training program for 10 individuals focused on pesticide residue and mycotoxin training in Singapore. Now, these 10 trainers will act as master trainers to conduct additional training of food testing personnel.

At the University of Maryland, GFSP has agreed to provide training on veterinary drug residue testing, which will be modeled after the training that has taken place in Singapore. GFSP will also provide technical assistance to FSSAI for making a detailed assessment of training needs of food safety personnel, providing international consultancy and for establishing international advisory mechanisms for benchmarking and harmonizing food safety practices.

FSSAI already has food safety partnerships with other countries including France, Germany, the Netherlands and New Zealand.
