SÜDPACK Expands Flexographic Printing Capabilities at Poland Facility

SÜDPACK has expanded its flexographic printing capabilities at its Competence Center in Kłobuck, Poland, with the installation of a new high-performance printing system. The machine, which went into operation in September, was designed to improve automation, production flexibility, workflow efficiency, and operator ergonomics.

The system can process a range of flexible packaging materials for food applications and accommodate both short and large print runs.

New System Designed to Improve Print Quality and Production Efficiency

According to SÜDPACK, the star-shaped configuration of the printing units and high-precision mounting of the printing-unit shafts enable consistent print quality for complex jobs at high production speeds.

The machine was designed for extra-wide webs, long repeat lengths, and high speeds, allowing larger print runs to be processed efficiently. Faster changeovers are also intended to improve the economic viability of shorter runs and reduce lead times from prepress through finished production.

SÜDPACK said the standardized printing process is intended to reduce potential sources of error and support consistent, reproducible print images throughout individual print runs and repeat orders.

The system is also Industry 4.0-ready, with connectivity to Internet of Things (IoT) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to enable data sharing and support workflow optimization.

Automation Supports Faster Job Changeovers

Two integrated, independent high-speed robots enable automated job changeovers. While the printing machine is operating, cylinders for up to four subsequent orders can be prepared in advance, reducing changeover time and giving operators additional time to prepare upcoming jobs.

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology helps operators correctly match carrier cylinders, anilox rolls, and sleeves. The system was also designed to improve the safety and ergonomics of manual sleeve changes by eliminating the need to lift heavy adapters and providing operators with guidance throughout the process.
