IAFNS Offers Paid Summer Fellowship for Food Safety, Nutrition Sciences Research

Institute for the Advancement of Food and Nutrition Sciences Launches To Promote Collaborative Research

The Institute for the Advancement of Food and Nutrition Sciences (IAFNS) is seeking applicants for a paid, part-time fellowship focused on food safety or nutritional sciences.

The fellowship may run 8–12 weeks and may take place any time between May 1 and September 30, 2026.

The fellowship is an opportunity to work with scientists in government, industry, and academia as a paid apprentice to learn more about how multi-sector science collaborations make an impact. Students are asked to meet the challenges of the food and beverage ecosystem by leading a specific project.

Project areas for 2026 include:

  • Reducing Heavy Metals and Toxic Elements: Building upon IAFNS-funded research, deliverables from the project may include fact sheets, whitepapers, or a brief video for select audiences
  • Frameworks to Identify Indicators of High-Quality Science: By synthesizing existing best practice frameworks, the deliverables from this project may include the development of a practical, user-friendly tool that helps researchers and other stakeholders identify high-quality science.

The position is offered as a remote role.

To be eligible for the Summer Research Opportunity Fellowship, a candidate must currently be a graduate student and able to work in the U.S. or Canada.
