Neogen, Hinalea Partner to Develop Hyperspectral Imaging Tech for Food Safety

Neogen Corporation has announced a strategic collaboration and equity investment in Hinalea Imaging Corp. to develop digital imaging technologies for food safety and quality inspection.
Neogen and Hinalea have worked together since 2025 to evaluate applications for hyperspectral imaging in food safety. Under the expanded collaboration, the companies plan to jointly develop technologies intended to improve inspection and testing workflows and enable faster, more consistent interpretation of results. Neogen has also made an equity investment in Hinalea, and the companies will share development costs.
Hyperspectral imaging captures information across a range of wavelengths, enabling the assessment of product characteristics that may not be visible through conventional imaging.
When combined with analytical tools and machine learning, the technology could support automated measurement, counting, and classification for food safety and quality applications, according to the companies. Neogen and Hinalea said they will continue evaluating potential uses of the technology within food industry inspection and testing workflows.
Hinalea develops hyperspectral imaging technologies that combine spectral imaging, analytics, and machine learning for inspection applications. In addition to food safety and quality, the company applies its technology to industrial inspection, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing.
