Presence of Bacterial Pathogens on Swiss Frozen Berries is Very Low, Study Shows

A recent survey of frozen berries at retail across Switzerland showed very low levels of pathogenic bacteria contamination, with only Bacillus cereus detected; however, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) indicators were detected on 2 percent of samples.

Switzerland has banned bisphenol A (BPA) and other hazardous bisphenols in food contact materials, but the regulation’s definition of hazardous BPAs is based on the chemicals’ molecular structure—notably leaving out some common, possibly harmful bisphenols like bisphenol M and bisphenol P.

Swiss Canton Bans PFAS-Contaminated Beef as EFSA Explores PFAS Immunotoxicity

A recent European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) project explored new methods to understand the immunotoxicity of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). At the same time, one Swiss canton has called on Parliament to develop a PFAS action plan after finding widespread contamination on farms, and has banned the sale of beef with high levels of the chemical.
