The Trump administration released its "Make America Healthy Again" (MAHA) Report on May 22, laying a foundation for the overhaul of government policy on childhood nutrition, food chemicals, environmental toxins found in food contact materials, and other concerns.

At the 2025 Food Safety Summit, the much-anticipated Town Hall session on Thursday featured a candid discussion and attendee Q&A with officials from FDA, USDA-FSIS, CDC, and AFDO.

The opening workshop of the 2025 Food Safety Summit focused on "Traceability Next Steps: Supply Chain Implementation" and included interactive traceability exercises to help attendees understand the requirements of FSMA 204.

Joseph Corby will receive Food Safety Magazine's Distinguished Service Award for 2025, to be presented at the 2025 Food Safety Summit in May in Rosemont, Illinois.

Dr. Sperber was a renowned food microbiologist who was recognized for his pioneering work in the development of HACCP and was appointed five times to NACMF. He was also a recipient of the Food Safety Magazine Distinguished Service Award.

At the 2024 Food Safety Summit, a panel of regulatory and industry experts discussed compliance with FSMA 204 and how the design and management of traceability programs has represented challenges and opportunities for companies across the supply chain.

Kathleen Glass, Ph.D., will receive Food Safety Magazine's Distinguished Service Award for 2024. The award will be presented at the 2024 Food Safety Summit, taking place May 6–9 in Rosemont, Illinois. 

In an October 19 invite-only media roundtable and written statement, James (Jim) Jones, the first Deputy Commissioner for Human Foods at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), revealed his priorities for forging a new, unified Human Foods Program. Significantly, amid the wave of state legislators aiming to ban possibly harmful food additives, Jones stated his intent to more closely address the issue, beginning with brominated vegetable oil. 

The Food Date Labeling Act, a bipartisan, bicameral bill, has been reintroduced in Congress to standardize and clarify food date labels to prevent food from being wasted. 

On December 23, 2022, the Senate voted to confirm Dr. Jose Emilio Esteban as the USDA's Under Secretary for Food Safety. The action came on the last day before the 177th Congress expired.
