NuVue Foods recalls burrito products due to misbranding and undeclared allergen

NuVue Foods chicken burrito recall
November 12, 2018

NuVue Foods, a Hamtramck, Mich. establishment, is recalling approximately 268 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) chicken burrito products due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced. The products contain egg, a known allergen, which was not declared on the product label.

The RTE chicken burrito items were produced on October 31, 2018. The following products are subject to recall: [View Label (PDF only)]

  • 6-oz. individually wrapped packages of “18th Street Deli Chicken Burrito” bearing expiration dates of “EXP 11/12/18” and “EXP 11/14/2018.”

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “P-22061,” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations, specifically vending machines, in Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.

The problem was discovered on November 9, 2018 after the firm received a consumer complaint. The establishment produced “18th Street Deli Farmers Burritos,” containing eggs, which were mistakenly labeled as “18th Street Deli Chicken Burrito.”

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ refrigerators. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
