Neogen Corporation has added to its line of dehydrated culture media products designed to simplify the process of preparing culture media for use.
Neogen’s new presterilized Acumedia® EZ Prep pouched products make media preparation easy by simplifying the process and eliminating the need to weigh and autoclave. Initially, the EZ Prep pouches that will be offered include Buffered Peptone Water (BPW) pre-measured for use with 25 gram samples, and Tryptic Soy Broth (TSB) pre-measured for use with 375 gram samples.
“We’ve designed EZ Prep media to be as convenient as possible. The media is pre-sterilized through irradiation to eliminate the need for autoclaving, handling of hot liquids, and the risk of contamination,” says Neogen’s John Guenther. “We chose BPW and TSB as the first products in the line because of their widespread use in food safety testing. But, EZ Prep pouches can be used for a variety of enrichment formulations and virtually any of Acumedia’s more than 400 formulations — if sufficient volumes are requested.”
For bulk media users, Neogen is also now offering pre-measured and sterilized Lab M µPREP™ dehydrated culture media bags that enable the easy preparation of 20 liters of media at a time. To prepare µPrep media, all you have to do is lay out the bag, fill with sterile water, and agitate to mix. This format is designed primarily for high throughput laboratories where speed, convenience, reliability and cost effectiveness are high priorities, and where storage space is at a premium.
