A new food safety rule has been finalized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to help prevent food contamination during its transport. This is the sixth major rule finalized to implement the FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).

The Final Rule on Sanitary Transportation of Human and Animal Food will require those who transport human and animal food by motor or rail vehicle to follow a predetermined set of best practices for sanitary transportation. Those best practices cover proper refrigeration, vehicle cleaning between loads, and properly protecting food during its transport.

The FDA will host a webinar to present key points in relation to the final rule.
