CRB has helped a Mars Chocolate North America manufacturing facility in Topeka, KS to earn their LEED® Gold certification.

Since 2010, CRB and Mars worked closely together to ensure successful completion of preliminary and detailed architectural and engineering design for the 500,000 square foot facility at a cost of $270 million. CRB completed the detailed design and construction support with the responsibility for all architectural and engineering design disciplines.

To become LEED® Gold certified, the site now includes several sustainable systems and features including:

  • state-of-the-art heat recovery systems

  • rain water harvesting for sewage transfer in the office area and for landscape irrigation

  • low-flow water fixtures

  • energy-efficient lighting

  • reusing and recycling building materials

  • use of native grasses without irrigation

  • use of local and regional materials
