UK Food Safety Research Network Offers New Funding Opportunity for AI-Focused Projects
The UK Food Safety Research Network (FSRN) has announced a new funding opportunity for projects on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to support food safety and sustainability.
FSRN is hosted by the Quadram Institute, funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and the UK Food Standards Agency (FSA), and serves as an innovation hub to coordinate and fund cross-sectoral research and training activities that address current and emerging challenges.
The FSRN Pilots Award is a rapid call for relevant new short-term projects and collaborations. Cross-sector and cross-disciplinary projects are encouraged, encompassing primary producers, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers to policy organizations and academia.
Activities can include small collaborative research projects that are demonstrational or translational, or cross-sector secondments to establish a new collaboration. Project applications should be for £2,000 to £10,000, representative of the scale and type of the project.
Funding is available for current Food Safety Research Network members and must represent a new collaboration between an academic lead applicant eligible to receive BBSRC funding and at least one non-academic partner. Those interested can join FSRN for free.
The deadline for applications is October 30, 2026. Funded activities must be completed by December 17, 2027. The application page is here.
