NEHA Launches Member-Exclusive Program to Support Environmental Health Professionals’ Wellbeing

The National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) has launched NEHA Thrive, a member-exclusive professional resilience and leadership program. Designed to support practitioners at every stage of their careers, NEHA Thrive provides practical leadership tools alongside science-informed strategies for managing stress, burnout, and long-term career sustainability.
Environmental health specialists play a critical role in protecting community health, yet the profession continues to face increasing workloads, complex regulatory responsibilities, and workforce shortages. NEHA Thrive was developed in partnership with Lucy Houghton Professional Development (LHPD) and is hosted exclusively within LHPD's online learning platform, the Courage Connection.
The program combines expert-led courses, moderated discussions, live microlearning sessions, and interactive question-and-answer opportunities with subject-matter experts. Through these offerings, participants gain access to actionable insights that strengthen leadership capacity, improve communication and decision-making, and reinforce resilience in the face of evolving public health challenges.
NEHA Thrive reflects the growing national commitment to protecting the mental health and well-being of those who serve on the public health front lines. The program aligns with the goals of the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act, landmark federal legislation signed into law in 2022 that established grants and national best-practice guidance to promote mental health, prevent burnout, and build resilience among healthcare and public health professionals.
The program emphasizes both professional development and personal sustainability. Participants explore leadership principles, stress-management strategies, and collaborative problem-solving approaches that reflect the realities of modern environmental health practice. By combining structured learning with peer discussion and expert insight, Thrive supports a stronger, more connected environmental health workforce.
NEHA Thrive is available exclusively to NEHA members and is designed to complement the association’s broader education and professional development portfolio. Together, these resources help environmental health professionals strengthen their expertise, expand leadership capabilities, and remain resilient as the field continues to evolve.
