The joint Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)/World Health Organization (WHO) World Food Safety Day (WFSD) campaign and theme for 2025 has been revealed: “Food Safety: Science in Action.” Since 2018, WFSD has been held annually on June 7 to raise awareness about the importance of food safety.
WFSD 2025 focuses on the crucial role that science plays in advancing research and knowledge to keep food safe. The campaign also emphasizes the vital role of all stakeholders—governments, businesses, and consumers—in putting that knowledge into action through effective policies, practices, and responsible choices to safeguard food at every stage.
In a video message announcing the theme of WFSD 2025, top FAO/WHO food safety officials stated, “It is not only the knowledge of science that keeps our food safe. It is rather our actions—actions based on the guidance and advice developed by scientists—that ensure that our food is safe.”
FAO/WHO have released a WFSD toolkit in six languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish) to help stakeholders prepare WFSD activities and communications.
Additionally, FAO/WHO will host a webinar on April 7, 2025 discussing the theme and communications tools available for WFSD 2025.
Information about the WFSD 2025 theme and campaign, as well as links to the toolkit, webinar, and other resources, can be found on a FAO/WHO Codex Alimentarius Commission webpage.
