FDA Sampling Finds Milk in 6.2 Percent of ‘Dairy-Free' Chocolate Products

A recent sampling assignment conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Pennsylvania and Michigan found milk in 6.2 percent of dark chocolate and chocolate-containing products labeled as “dairy-free,” although all positive samples were also labeled with an allergen advisory statement.

Pennsylvania is Latest State to Introduce Food Additives Legislation, While Kentucky Urges FDA to Take Control

Following the wave of state-level legislation on food additives cropping up across the U.S., two bills have been introduced in Pennsylvania to prohibit nine chemicals from being used as food additives in the state. Additionally, Kentucky wrote a resolution urging FDA to mandate a prohibition on U.S. food manufacturers producing or selling food containing harmful ingredients that have been banned by several other countries.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture recently signed a memorandum of understanding, entering the agencies into a partnership agreement to set the foundation for domestic mutual reliance and an integrated food safety system in Pennsylvania.
