Easy VIS, a new analytical instrument from METTLER TOLEDO, unites three measuring tasks in one. Easy VIS can analyze liquid, translucent samples for their optical spectrum and color, and can determine water parameters. The compact, multipurpose nature of Easy VIS quickens processes and improves the quality of results, saving operators money, time, and space.

Easy VIS, one of METTLER TOLEDO’s next-generation EasyPlus UV/VIS spectrometers, combines a colorimeter, a spectrophotometer, and special measuring methods for water testing—such as titration—in one instrument. Easy VIS is compact—about the size of a notebook. Easy VIS’ results conveniently appear on a screen within seconds of measurement, and provide accuracy, precision, and repeatability.

Easy VIS features many benefits for manufacturers in the food and beverage industry. Streamlining production processes, Easy VIS can be used at multiple points: for the inspection of raw materials, for quality control of semi-finished and finished products, or for testing water quality. Easy VIS also gives manufacturers who typically send samples to an external laboratory the ability to analyze most samples independently, cutting costs.

Easy VIS’ visual user interface with workflow guidance allows operators to easily scan and measure samples. Even untrained staff can operate Easy VIS intuitively, increasing the integrity and repeatability of analyses and saving training time.

Easy VIS operates within a wavelength range of 330 to 1,000 nanometers (nm). The light source is a tungsten lamp, which any operator can replace quickly. Easy VIS’ partner device, Easy UV, covers the full UV/VIS spectrum with a wavelength range from 190 to 1,000 nm. Easy UV also runs with a power-saving and maintenance-free xenon-flash lamp.

Easy VIS comes pre-installed with 25 standard-compliant color scales in the visible range. For example, Easy VIS include ICUMSA™ for sugar color, ESBC for beer quality analysis, and OIV CIELab for wine color determination. Results reveal the quality of a product within seconds.

Easy VIS' water analysis shows whether water is fit for human consumption or can be used in further production. For example, Easy VIS can determine the concentration of aluminum, ozone, chlorine, or polyphenol in water samples.

Easy VIS spectrophotometry analyzes samples with wavelengths that reflect the sample’s characteristic absorption of light. The instrument measures transmitted or absorbed light and reports the sample’s concentration or purity.

The Easy VIS testing procedure is simple. A cuvette holds a blank measurement, and another is prepared with the sample. After choosing the desired analysis method, the cuvette is placed in the cuvette holder. The PathDetect™ function recognizes which path length to measure. Closing the lid automatically starts the blank measurement, which is stored for seven days.

After determining the blank, the sample cuvette is brought into the measuring position. The measurement automatically restarts after closing the lid. Within seconds, the results show up on the screen, and Easy VIS is free to analyze other samples or to start a different analysis method.

With the EasyDirect™ software, Easy VIS results may be automatically saved or exported to an external storage device, or exchanged with a data management system.
