USDA-FSIS Names Trey Forsyth as Acting Deputy Under Secretary for Food Safety

In July 2025, Trey Forsyth was named acting Deputy Under Secretary for Food Safety at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). In this role, Mr. Forsyth leads the Office of Food Safety, which oversees FSIS.
Mr. Forsyth’s familiarity with agriculture began with growing up on his family’s swine and row crop farm in Northeast Iowa. In his education and career, he built expertise in agricultural policy, trade, and sustainability.
Prior to joining USDA, Forsyth served as a professional staff member for the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry for Senator and Chairman John Boozman (R-Arkansas). In this role, he handled issues related to livestock, poultry, dairy, animal health, food safety, and tax portfolios. He also previously served as policy advisor to Gregg Doud, the Chief Agriculture Negotiator at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR).
In the private sector, Mr. Forsyth served as Senior Manager of Federal and Industry Relations for Land O’Lakes, and as Director of Government Affairs at the Torrey Advisory Group.
Mr. Forsyth graduated from Iowa State University in 2017 with a degree in Agricultural Business.
