The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA FSIS) has announced that it is modernizing egg products inspection methods for the first time since Congress passed the Egg Products Inspection Act in 1970.

The public meeting will feature presentations from food safety experts on their current and upcoming work and will highlight partnerships that have set the stage for the continued improvement of consumer food safety.   

For National Food Safety Education Month, the National Restaurant Association (NRA)’s ServSafe is serving up tips, tools, and education on proper hygiene practices that restaurant managers and employees should follow.   

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has begun a major campaign to raise awareness and help halt the spread of African swine fever (ASF) in south-east Europe.  

The peaches in question were also distributed widely throughout the U.S. Retailers on the receiving end include Walmart, Target, Kroger, Ralph’s, Wegmans, ALDI, Food Lion, and others.  

September is recognized as National Food Safety Education Month, also often referred to as Food Safety Awareness Month.

The checklist is useful for persons growing, harvesting, packing, manufacturing, processing, or holding human and animal food regulated by FDA. 

The LGMA program will immediately begin educating members on how to comply with the new standards.

FSIS will discuss the agency’s commitment to reduce pathogen contamination by leading with science, building relationships, and influencing behavior change to decrease Salmonella infections associated with FSIS-regulated products and save lives.

As of August 19th, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported 68 illnesses (14 hospitalizations) in 9 states.
