Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has updated Safe Food Australia, a guide on Australian food safety standards for local government and food businesses, to incorporate the new Standard 3.2.2A food safety management tools.
The updated guidance was part of a suite of initiatives developed with states and territories to support strengthened food safety in the foodservice and retail sector. Key changes to the standard include the requirements for training for food handlers and supervisors, and substantiating key actions at critical control points.
Food businesses have 12 months to implement the changes, which come into effect December 8, 2023. Australian federal, state, and territory governments continue to take a joint approach to improving food safety standards across the nation, in cooperation with food businesses, which are encouraged to contact local enforcement authorities for further information about compliance with the new food safety standards.
