A multistate outbreak of Salmonella Carrau has sickened at least 93 people in 9 states, says the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The source: Caito Foods LLC—the same supplier at the center of a similar outbreak that occurred nearly 1 year ago.

The contaminated produce items include pre-cut watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, and pre-cut fruit medley products containing one of the aforementioned melon types produced at Caito’s Indianapolis, IN facility.

Last summer, Caito Foods was the source of a Salmonella Adelaide outbreak that sickened 77 people in 9 states. In that outbreak, the infected patients all reported having eaten pre-cut cantaloupe, watermelon, or a fruit salad mix with melon purchased from a grocery store. A recall was issued soon thereafter.

See FDA.gov for a detailed list of the currently recalled fruit products and where they were distributed.

CDC is instructing consumers to immediately throw out any pre-cut melon who’s brand or source cannot be clearly identified.
