FSIS proposes amendments to uninspected products rule

Rule would eliminate prescriptive requirements

By Casey Laughman
Regulatory Watch
September 12, 2018

The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is proposing an amendment to federal meat and poultry products inspection regulations.

The proposed changes would eliminate prescriptive requirements for the manufacture of uninspected products in edible product areas of official establishments and allow such products to be manufactured outside the hours of inspection.

The proposed standards would replace the prescriptive requirements in 9 CFR 318.12 and 381.52 with general standards governing the manufacture of uninspected, inedible products in official establishments.
