A new partnership has formed between AIB International and Kansas State University’s (KSU’s) IGP Institute. Together, the parties are committed to helping pet food companies meet new federal regulations, culminating with the four-day AIB-KSU Pet Food Safety Workshop later this winter in Manhattan, KS.

The goal of the upcoming workshop––aimed at pet food industry workers including safety and quality assurance managers, line supervisors, sanitation supervisors and operational leads–– is to make sure that pet food companies are well versed regarding the new federal regulations. Experts and industry guest speakers will train attendees in the following areas:

  • Hazard analysis and critical control points planning
  • Identifying good manufacturing practices
  • Establishing sanitation procedures
  • Developing an environmental monitoring program

The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) has had a major impact on the pet food industry. Now, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration requires comprehensive, prevention-based controls across the food supply–-include animal food. As such, pet food producers are going the extra mile to ensure they meet these FSMA requirements.
