The Peanut and Tree Nut Processors Association (PTNPA) will recognize National Nut Day on October 22, highlighting the nutrition, economic impact, and community contributions of the U.S. nut industry.

According to PTNPA, the industry contributes $148.25 billion annually to the U.S. economy, supports 515,107 jobs, generates $15.70 billion in tax revenue, and exports $10.69 billion in products. PTNPA’s “Nut Numbers” Economic Impact Report provides state-by-state data on the industry’s economic contributions.

The association represents 10 nut commodities: almonds, black walnuts, Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamias, peanuts, pecans, pistachios, and walnuts.

PTNPA said its 2026 National Nut Day activities will focus on nutrition, economic impact, community giving, and collaboration among nut commodity groups.

On nutrition, PTNPA and its Industry Affiliate Members will share science-based information about nuts and their role in healthy eating patterns.

The association will also highlight findings from its “Nut Numbers” report, which examines sales, employment, and economic activity associated with nut production, processing, transportation, manufacturing, and retail across the U.S.

Community giving will comprise another component of the event. During PTNPA’s October 22 celebration, attendees will prepare 220 nut butter and jelly sandwiches for donation to Thrive DC. PTNPA also cited industry partnerships with hunger-relief organizations, including Feeding America.

The event will include a “Nut Marketplace,” where participating commodity groups will provide information about their respective products. PTNPA will also present state-level findings from its “Nut Numbers” report and host the sandwich-making activity benefiting Thrive DC.

Participating PTNPA Industry Affiliate Members include the Almond Alliance, Almond Board of California, American Peanut Council, American Peanut Shellers Association, American Pecan Council, American Pistachio Growers, Associated Oregon Hazelnut Industries, California Walnut Commission, Georgia Peanut Commission, Macadamias South Africa (SAMAC), National Peanut Board, Texas Peanut Producers Board, The Peanut Institute, and World Macadamia Organisation.
