IAFP’s 2019 Black Pearl Award Recipient: General Mills
The International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) has announced that General Mills is the 2019 recipient of the prestigious Black Pearl Award. General Mills will be presented with the award at this year’s IAFP Annual Meeting in Louisville, KY.
The Black Pearl Award is given annually to a single company for its efforts in advancing food safety and quality through consumer programs, employee relations, educational activities, adherence to standards, and support of the goals and objectives of IAFP.
General Mills works with farmers to source raw materials, produce food across more than 100 brands, and distribute that food to customers in retail, e-commerce, and convenience and foodservice settings, landing in the homes of consumers across 100 global markets. Throughout this process, General Mills generates $17 billion in sales annually. Food safety is its priority every step of the way.
General Mills also makes it their business to strengthen its communities and the planet. With 38,000 employees, the company believes in using its size as a force for good, and it is doing so by advancing sustainable farming, combating climate change, fighting hunger and supporting local schools.
General Mills is the parent company of many popular household brands, including Cheerios, Yoplait, Haagen Dazs, Pillsbury, Betty Crocker, and more.
Previous Black Pearl Awards have been given to Eurofins Scientific (2018), Panda Restaurant Group (2017), Meijer (2016), and Tyson Foods (2015).
