EvaClean Fights Bird Flu Outbreak with Avian Influenza Mitigation Initiative

EvaClean PurOne
June 1, 2022

Poultry farms are being devastated by the recent outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). Although the risk to human health from the outbreak remains low, HPAI is highly contagious and fatal to poultry flocks, and has significantly impacted commercial poultry facilities, food processing plants, and other stakeholders in the poultry supply chain.

Decontamination is a key biosecurity measure in preventing the spread of HPAI. However, many cleaning and disinfecting chemicals can be toxic to livestock and soil, and may pose health hazards to humans.

EvaClean, a provider of infection prevention solutions, aims to help mitigate the HPAI outbreak by providing farmers with an affordable and effective decontamination solution that will not cause harmful side effects. EvaClean has established the Avian Influenza Mitigation (AIM) program to help farmers safely stop the spread of the bird flu. AIM provides process enhancement protocols and price reductions for EvaClean’s PurOne disinfectant chemistry.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized PurOne’s efficacy against every major animal pathogen, including a one-minute kill claim for the bird flu. PurOne is biodegradable, with the lowest toxicity rating, a 0/0/0 Hazardous Materials Identification System (HMIS) rating, and a neutral pH. The primary ingredient in PurOne is NaDCC, which creates a natural HOCl solution when mixed with water. The tablet concentrate ensures accurate dilution to the correct strength for cleaning and disinfecting interior or exterior surfaces, floors, and equipment.

PurOne requires minimal PPE and can be applied using microfiber cloths and mops, as well as with EvaClean’s disposable wipes system. Since PurOne comprises a versatile broad-spectrum chemistry, it can replace nearly a dozen other cleaning, disinfecting, and deodorizing products. PurOne can help reduce chemical exposure, simplify procedures, and elevate sustainability.

EvaClean believes that, while the right disinfectant is a critical part of biosecurity, proper implementation of cleaning and disinfecting protocols is essential to successful outcomes. For this reason, the EvaClean infection prevention team works closely with meat and poultry facilities to help identify transmission risks and develop customized biosecurity hygiene protocols.
