The order, aimed at expanding market access for U.S. meat producers, focuses on growing existing state inspection programs and state–federal agreements. It also calls for “sharpening inspection to focus on core food safety” and removing “overly prescriptive” USDA-FSIS requirements.

Following the entry of a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA’s FSIS) for a state meat inspection program in July 2022, the Oregon Department of Agriculture been allocated $9 million in state funding to support the state meat inspection program.

Arkansas is the 29^th state to enter into a cooperative agreement that allows for Arkansas’ inspection program to inspect meat products produced for intrastate shipment under the State Meat and Poultry Inspection program.
