FDA to Hold Public Meetings for Proposed FSMA Rules

January 31, 2013

The two recently issued proposed Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) rules, Current Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Human Food and Standards for the Growing, Harvesting, Packing, and Holding of Produce for Human Consumption, are to be the topics of public meetings scheduled by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The meetings are planned for February 28, 2013 from 8:30 am–5:00 pm, and March 1, 2013 from 8:30 am–12:00 pm, at the Jefferson Auditorium of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 14th and Independence Avenue, SW, Wing 5 Entrance, Washington, DC.

The purpose of these meetings is to discuss the proposed rules, which are the first rules that would establish the foundation of, and central framework for, the modern food safety system envisioned by Congress in the implementation of FSMA. The meeting is also designed to solicit comments from stakeholders, inform the public about the rulemaking process and respond to questions about the proposed rules.
