The Food Safety Summit offers an engaging, interactive experience

The Food Safety Summit, taking place October 19-22, 2020 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL gives food safety professionals the opportunity to hear from leading subject matter experts on an array of food safety related topics; connect with peers in Community Discussion Groups and dedicated networking functions; and meet with representatives from hundreds of leading companies and learn about innovative solutions.

Featured Sessions for the 2020 Summit include:

  • The Opening Session: COVID-19: The New Normal for the Food Industry will feature subject matter experts from epidemiology, regulatory, distribution, manufacturing, foodservice and retail on what they did to address the Covid-19 Pandemic Crisis for their organizations, customers and consumers.
  • The Keynote Presentation: The impact of COVID-19 will be addressed in the Keynote Address by Will Daniels, president, Produce Division, IEH Laboratories and Consulting Group who will discuss Back to Basics: Consumer Focused Food Safety.
  • Town Hall: Hear insightful information from Frank Yiannas, Food & Drug Administration (FDA); Rob Tauxe, MD, MPH, Center for Disease Control (CDC); Paul Kiecker, US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Inspection Services (FSIS); and Steven Mandernach, Association of Food & Drug Officials (AFDO) during a 75-minute Q&A with top regulators.
  • Closing SessionFoodborne Illness Outbreak Mock Criminal Trial – A View from the Jury Box. Shawn Stevens and Joel Chappelle with Food Industry Counsel LLC will lead a mock trial of Lynn White, VP of food safety for a company that caused a Listeria outbreak, on whether she should be criminally convicted. Learn about the scope of potential criminal exposure a company may face if their products are associated with an outbreak. Learn about the different types of evidence and arguments federal prosecutors will use to convict food company executives. Identify strategies that can be implemented in an organization to protect the employees and company from criminal exposure. Deliberate the evidence as jurors in the trial and vote whether to convict or acquit Ms. White.
